The wheel bolt is a type of threaded fastener used to secure a wheel to a vehicle's hub or axle. These bolts play a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of vehicles, and they are commonly found in automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, and other wheeled vehicles.
What’s the Difference Between a Wheel Stud and a Wheel Bolt?
Both wheel studs and wheel bolts serve the same fundamental purpose of attaching wheels to a vehicle's wheel hub, yet they differ in their attachment mechanism and how they secure the wheel in place.
Jinghong Fasteners® wheel bolt is essentially a threaded fastener that threads into the hub from the rear, with the threaded end protruding through the hub and into the wheel. After properly centering the wheel over the hub, lug nuts are then threaded onto the exposed portion of the wheel bolts to fasten the wheel securely to the hub.
In contrast, a wheel stud is a threaded bolt that extends outward from the hub and passes through a hole in the center of the wheel. Wheel studs are inserted from the front side of the hub. Once the wheel is correctly aligned over the studs, lug nuts are threaded onto the studs, providing a secure connection between the wheel and the hub.
Each design has its own set of advantages and drawbacks. Wheel bolts tend to be simpler to install and remove, eliminating the need to align the wheel over the studs. However, wheel studs offer a more robust attachment, as they are better equipped to resist shear forces, which can cause wheel bolts to loosen or break, especially under heavy loads or extreme conditions. Furthermore, when using wheel studs, there is usually no requirement to hold the wheel in place during lug nut tightening, as the studs independently secure the wheel in position.
Grade10.9 Wheel Bolt Black are typically made from alloy steel that has undergone specific heat treatment processes to achieve the desired mechanical properties. The material commonly a form of medium carbon steel or alloy steel. The heat treatment process involves quenching and tempering to enhance the strength and hardness of the material.
